Piney Woods

Sweet magnolia blossoms
lost among the pines
like the boys in cutoff blue jeans
swinging from grapevines

Innocence is golden
like the call of the mourning dove
the cardinals are singing of their world
and of their love

for piney woods
where my grandfather lived
piney woods
where my grandmother sang
hymns and dirges in the church
in the piney woods

Creeks with sandy bottoms
roads of red dirt clay
where the boys they chase chameleons
and while away their childhood days

Innocence is golden
like the call of the mourning dove
the cardinals are singing of their world
and of their love

for piney woods
where my grandfather lived
piney woods
where my grandmother sang
hymns and dirges in the church
in the piney woods

The Way the River Flows

George Palmer Macias: Firefly
Oh the northern lights are dancing in the sky
and I don't know why they make me think of you and I
swaying to the music back before we even knew
that you were gonna leave me with these
sentimental blues

I can't explain it
in poetry or prose
it's just the way, the way the river flows

Oh the southern sky is lit with moon and stars
and I don't know why I keep on wondering where you are
I'm praying to the muses that someday I will lose
these memories that take me back to
sentimental blues

I can't explain it
in poetry or prose
it's just the way, the way the river flows
it's just the way, the way the river flows

Oh the Western world is quarreling with the East
you'd think we'd learn to get along and live in peace
and I'm wishing we would choose it
but all I really wanna do
is dance around the planet with these
sentimental blues

I can't explain it
in poetry or prose
it's just the way, the way the river flows
just the way, the way the river flows
just the way, the way the river flows.

You Turn My Light On

Well I like Craig Biggio
Comin' up to bat
You like Rusty Wallace
Racing 'round the track
I kind of like the Dixie Chicks
You like Toby Keith
I like to be on top of things
You like to be beneath

You turn my light on
Every time I see you
You turn my light on
You make me wanna be with you
You turn my light on
Even when you’re gone
You turn my light on
On and on and on

I like an omelet
For some morning power
You like pickled beets
And a beer with your shower
I like The Beatles
And you like The Stones
Well baby I can let it be
If you put Sticky Fingers on

You turn my light on
Every time I see you
You turn my light on
You make me wanna be with you
You turn my light on
Even when you’re gone
You turn my light on
On and on and on

I like to mope around
And you like to laugh
At the zoo I like the lion
you like the giraffe
And you like a chic flick
I like a little action
You like the Hill’s Cafe
I like the Saxon

You turn my light on
Every time I see you
You turn my light on
You make me wanna be with you
You turn my light on
Even when you’re gone
You turn my light on
On and on and on
You turn my light on

Pirate Ship

There's a fog rolling in down on the bay
and a loner on the pier
he's doomed to fly like Icharus
and touch the ocean like a tear

there's a pirate ship on the water
and I better get some cover
there's a ghost on the bow in the harbor
with a smile that could steal your lover
with a smile that could steal your lover

There was a man hunched down by the water
I handed him a dime for wine
I saw the pirates laughing in the thunder
at the blind man leading the blind

there's a pirate ship on the water
and I better get some cover
there's a ghost on the bow in the harbor
with a smile that could steal your lover
with a smile that could steal your lover

Who Paints Upon the Wind

I look down on the clouds below me
from this jet plane in the sky
as we chase the glowing sunset
across the magic night
tangerines and indigos
and hues I can't explain
who is this artist
who never signs his name

I look back on the life behind me
from this vantage point in time
how I've chased away the ones I've loved
how they've vanished from my sight
But I can touch this morning's
golden leaves and silver dew
forget the past as easily as this moment

If I were Michelangelo
I'd paint you up the scene
If I were Ferlinghetti
well I'd dream you up the dream
funny how most beauty goes unnoticed

I listen to the sounds around me
hear the bow on a violin
hear the bustling of the city streets
the laugh of the innocent
the harsh roar of the angry
and the proud voice of the wren
who is this artist
who paints upon the wind

If I were Michelangelo
I'd paint you up the scene
If I were Ferlinghetti
well I'd dream you up the dream
funny how most beauty goes
funny how most beauty goes
funny how most beauty goes
unnoticed.

Moon Over the Chisos

Moon over the Chisos, and Sierra Del Carmen
Light up the waters, of the old Rio Grande
Surrounded by beauty, so wild that it hurts
Ah, but nothing compares to you, nothing on this earth

Oh hold me close to you
And whisper my name
I’m still in love with you
After all of these years
Oh hold me close to you
And never let go
There’s no border between us
Here in old Mexico

Oh it’s snowing on Emery, and the green pinion pines
And old Casa Grande, stands like Father Time
Watching over this desert, and this place in my heart
But you’re the rock that I turn to, when the going gets hard

Down the cottonwood valleys, walk with your hand in mine
Through the juniper canyons, up these mountains so fine
We’ll make love in the desert, by the river of lore
Oh I’ve been a rich man, even if I’ll be poor

Moon over the Chisos, and Sierra Del Carmen
Light up the waters, of the old Rio Grande
Surrounded by beauty, so wild that it hurts
Ah, but nothing compare to you, nothing on this earth.

Ringtail

My name is Martin Parmer, you might never heard of me
I was born up in Virginia, made my way to Tennessee
and I ran the mill on Yellow Creek for Montgomery Bell
I used that steel to kill the Brits in the War of 1812

Well I drifted on to Missouri, where I built myself a home
in the Fishing River Valley, where no white man would go
and I raised myself a family and skinned myself some bars
and I made truce with the Sioux except the killer they called Two Hearts

I am the Ringtail Panther
wild and wooly hard to curry
when I'm mad I fight and when I fight I whup

Well I heard word of a wilder place, down in Mexico
in a land that they called Tejas, and I talked my gal to go
then me and the Edwards brothers and a band of Cherokee
said we'll call this place Fredonia, free of all this tyranny

Well I lost that fight with Mexico, and it burned me up inside
and it took the Texians ten more years to figure I was right
but when the Alamo was lost, I was there at Washington
declaring Texas freedom from Santa Anna's guns

When Sam Houston won the war, he was on my Isom's gray
Sam was born on the day I died, Texas Independence Day
my name is Martin Parmer, and I tell you this my friend
I was born up in Virginia, but I am a Texian

I said my name is Martin Parmer, you might never heard of me
I was born up in Virginia, made my way to Tennessee
then I drifted on to Missouri, where I skinned myself some bars
then on down to Texas, where I helped put up that Lone Star.

Am I Dreaming Too Loud

If I try really hard
can I change how things go
will this road turn from dirt
to a ribbon of gold

Am I calling your name
are you answering back
am I worthy of love
am I way off the track

If I dance in the sky
on top of a cloud
will you be my crowd
am I dreaming too loud
am I dreaming too loud

If I run very fast
will I ever arrive
at the place in the heart
where love is alive

Am I calling your name
are you answering back
am I worthy of love
am I way off the track

If I dance in the sky on top of a cloud
will you be my crowd
am I dreaming too loud
am I dreaming too loud

If I try really hard
can I change how things go
will this road turn from dirt
to a ribbon of gold

If I dance in the sky on top of a cloud
will you be my crowd
am I dreaming too loud
am I dreaming too loud
